Happy Groundhog's Day!

Happy Groundhog's Day!

Brrrr! It’s chilly outside! Although there were no shadows to scare Tony Tifft, the “resident groundhog” of Tifft Nature Preserve, back into his burrow today, it is hard to believe an early spring is on its way! Tony spent Groundhog’s Day trying out Tifft’s new kid’s snowshoes for rent in the freshly fallen snow and then retreated inside for a cup of hot chocolate and a cozy seat by the fireplace.  He hopes today’s scenic winter landscape sticks around a little longer for Tifft’s Frosty Fun Festival on February 16th  10am-2pm. Snowshoe Hikes, Frosty Fun Olympic Games, and lots more fun is scheduled for the date. Check out Tifft Nature Preserve’s Facebook page for upcoming program information and more photos of Tony Tifft’s Adventures this February! Happy Groundhog’s Day from Tony Tifft!

It May Be Winter, But We're Thinking Fun In The Sun!

It May Be Winter, But We're Thinking Fun In The Sun!

The CAID Day At The Park is still several months away, but we're already starting to plan for the biggest fundraiser of the year for Crusade Against Impaired Driving.  It's a fun event at Sunshine Park in West Seneca that includes a one-pitch coed softball tourney, chicken barbecue, basket raffle, and silent auction.  Hundreds attend each year to raise awareness and funds to fight drunk driving and texting while driving in Western New York.  What's raised here stays here!

We play softball in memory of Karen Kwiatkowski, an 18 year old young woman whose life was cut tragically short by a drunk driver in 1998.  Karen played softball for 12 years and this event is dedicated to her.  We also play in memory of Alix Rice, Bryce Bucholz, and many others who were killed in DWI-related crashes.

Hamburg Fairgrounds to Host Buffalo Warriors; Jim Brinson to Call Games

The Buffalo Warriors of the IBA-PBL basketball league have chosen an exciting suburban location for their 2013 home games: The Event Center at the Hamburg Fairgrounds!

The selection of the Event Center was an easy choice, according to Ed Bednarz, owner of the Buffalo Warriors. “The Event Center has everything we need, including seating for up to 5,000 fans, a climate-controlled environment, ticket offices, concession stands and plenty of free parking. It also has the added draw of the busy casino and racetrack, so bringing our basketball games there is a natural fit.”

Roswell Park’s Team Cure Runs to Save Lives and Cure Cancer

Roswell Park’s Team Cure Challenge is kicking off the 2013 running season with the Shamrock Run 8K on March 2, and you’re invited to join!

Team Cure Challenge is a run/walk program where participants train and compete in local or destination races while raising critically-needed funds to support the cutting-edge research and patient care programs at Roswell Park.

Many Team Cure Challenge members run in honor of loved ones, like Ben, who ran in memory of his father who was diagnosed with Stage III prostate cancer and passed one month before Ben’s high school graduation. Through Team Cure Challenge, Ben completed the Dublin Marathon, and chronicled his journey to Ireland in the video above.

Jacobs Will Not Release Pistol Permit Data to Buffalo News

Jacobs Will Not Release Pistol Permit Data to Buffalo News

County Clerk Believes Matter of Public Safety

Erie County, NY- Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs stated he will not provide to the Buffalo News the records of over 75,000 pistol permit holders in Erie County. Late last week Jacobs received a request from the Buffalo News for “all active pistol permit holders in Erie County, including but not limited to name and address.”

The Freedom of Information request came soon after a downstate paper obtained and published, in the form of an interactive Google map, all pistol permit holders in Rockland and Westchester Counties.

“I will exhaust every legal avenue available to keep the records of registered gun owners private, because I believe such disclosure could endanger the life and safety of our citizens,” said Jacobs. “As an elected official, that will always be my first priority.”
