HockeyTowneUSA Fan Fest Coming to Downtown Buffalo

The world is coming to Buffalo ... and we’re throwing a party!

HockeyTowne USA Fan Fest, four days of fun for kids, moms, dads and hockey enthusiasts, is coming to the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center in downtown Buffalo December 26-29. Admission is just $5 per person, and children 12 and under are free with a paid adult admission.

A private VIP party featuring The Boys of Summer will be held on Sunday, December 26. HockeyTowne USA Fan Fest will then open to the public from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, December 27 and Tuesday, December 28, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Local high school coaches become certified in concussion reduction training

Coaches from West Seneca East Senior High School are the first from a Western New York school to become certified in Primordial Strength Inc.’s Concussion Reduction Basic Neck Training as part of their football strength training certification, according to Primordial President Steven Helmicki. Concussion certification and explosive power endurance certification is available for all sports and can be taught in your school.

Helmicki, a resident of East Aurora, founded Primordial Strength in 2007 and is focused on training coaches, athletes and teams across Western New York on all levels, teaching them what he has learned over the course of a lifetime. Primordial Strength is a leader in the anti-concussion movement, specializing in neck and trapezius training.

Girls' Varsity Hockey Comes to Western New York

The organizers of the brand new Western New York Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Federation would like to thank everybody in the community who supported the league for their tireless hard work over the last few years. They expressed special thanks to the school boards, superintendents and athletic directors of the participating schools for their contributions.

The puck was dropped for the league's inaugural game between Williamsville and Monsignor Martin on Wednesday.

The participating districts are: Williamsville, Monsignor Martin, Kenmore, Amherst/Sweet Home, Orchard Park/Frontier, West Seneca and Lancaster.

Local Fitness Expert to Celebrate a Decade of Writing for International Strength Magazine

Primordial Strength Inc. President Steven Helmicki, a resident of East Aurora, will celebrate his 10th year of writing for MILO: A Journal For Serious Strength Athletes, in December. Published by IronMind, MILO is the pre-eminent international strength magazine.

Primordial Strength’s Marine Training Methods Receive Endorsements

The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and The Cooper Institute have approved Primordial Strength Inc.’s Marine Functional Force Training for continuing education units for all NASM- and Cooper Institute-certified trainers. 

BOPC Announces "Olmsted Nights Winter Lights" and "FLURRIOUS!"

The official announcement went out for Olmsted Nights Winter Lights the first energy efficient theatrical lighting show in Western New York. Taking place in the historic Delaware Park along Parkside Ave. including the Parkside Lodge this event will use over 50,000 LED, solar, and other energy efficient lights in a theatrical lighting display. Today's press conference took place inside the Parkside Lodge to provide a media preview which included the ceremonial relighting of the fireplace for the first time in 50 years. The lodge was also decked out in holiday decorations similar to how it will look during Olmsted Nights Winter Lights. Live music was performed by O'Connell & Company Productions and Eden Carriage Company gave a preview of the carriage rides that will be available to enhance the experience.

Local Fitness Instructor Named Ambassador to Sports Legacy Institute

Primordial Strength Inc. President Steven Helmicki of East Aurora was recently named a Sports Legacy Institute Ambassador. The mission of the Sports Legacy Institute is to advance the study, treatment and prevention of the effects of brain trauma in athletes and other at-risk groups. SLI was founded in 2007 to “Solve the Sports Concussion Crisis,” and in 2009, SLI launched programs to also serve military veterans.
