Baseball Academy Adds Coaches, Offering Special Lesson Package and Hosting Tryouts

Attention baseball and softball players! The Baseball Academy of WNY, located at New Era Park, 4817 Lake Ave., Blasdell, has added two new instructors for its fall and winter schedule. The additions include Joe Mamott, a former professional pitcher with the Boston Red Sox, and Charlie Karstedt, a four-year player at the University at Buffalo.

The Academy is also offering a lesson package special on all regularly priced 10 packs. Anyone purchasing a 10-pack of private lessons by October 31 will be given one free lesson. Eleven lessons for the price of 10 — a $32 value!

Canisius College to Host Open House October 23

BUFFALO, NY - Canisius College will host an Open House for prospective undergraduate students on Saturday, October 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the college’s campus located on Main Street in Buffalo, New York.

Faculty, administrators and students will be on hand to greet prospective students interested in any of 75 majors offered by the college through the Richard J. Wehle School of Business, the School of Education & Human Services and the College of Arts & Sciences. Parents of students are also encouraged to attend. Pre-registration is strongly recommended. Students and parents may also register the day of the event at the college’s Montante Cultural Center on Main Street at Eastwood Place.

The program includes campus tours, academic presentations by faculty, and information involving financial aid, student life and the admissions process. Students can also learn out about service immersion and research and internship opportunities.

Original Sabres Seat To Be Featured at South Buffalo Catholic School Student Art Auction

South Buffalo Catholic School will hold a student art auction on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the Trinity Catholic Academy's campus located at 16 Hayden Street.

The auction will be held in St. Teresa's Parish Hall on Mineral Springs Road on the campus of Trinity Catholic Academy in South Buffalo. Parking will be available in the Mineral Springs parking lot.

The auction will feature student artwork as well as musical interludes from the Music Departments of each campus.

Doors open at 6pm and will feature a live auction as well as a silent auction.  Original artwork, refinished tables, chairs, and an original Sabres seat from Memorial Auditorium, titled Starry Night featuring the art work of two Notre Dame students will be up for bid.

Personal checks and cash will be accepted.

WS East Elementary Promotes Peace on Pavement

Colorful drawings covered the sidewalks at West Seneca East Elementary on Wednesday, Sept. 21 for the school’s first “Chalk for Peace” event.

Students at the school decorated the pavement with chalk illustrations in celebration of World Peace Day. This annual holiday dedicated to peace has been observed since 1981.

The many drawings ranged from peace symbols, doves, hearts, handprints, planet Earth, renderings of children and written messages encouraging compassion and hope – all making a statement for peace.

The art work followed a viewing of the video “Peace One Day,” which depicts the story behind the founding of Peace Day.

Though this was the first year East Elementary took part in an official celebration of the day, staff and students are already talking about plans for Sept. 21, 2011, including possibly donating snack money to raise funds for a charitable cause.

Congressman Higgins to Host Military Academy Night

Students, Parents, School Administrators & Guidance Counselors Invited to Informational Meeting 


Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) will host Academy Night 2010, an opportunity for high school students, their families, school administrators and counselors to find out more about Military Academy institutions, programs and the application process. 

“We invite those interested to come to Academy Night, hear about the schools first hand from Academy representatives and learn how to apply,” said Congressman Higgins. 

Holy Angels Academy Invites Girls and Their Families to Fall Open House

Holy Angels Academy will host fall Open Houses on Saturday, October 2 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and Monday, October 4 from 5 - 7 p.m.  We invite girls in grades 5th - 8th and their families to tour our campus and meet teachers and students while learning more about our academic and extra-curricular opportunities.  

Holy Angels also invites 8th graders to participate in the "Anglel for a Day" program.  This allows girls to see firsthand what a typical day is like here.  Girls are matched with a current student and accompany her for the day, sitting in on classes and meeting her friends.

South Buffalo Catholic School Celebrates Teacher Committment at Commissioning Mass

On Sunday, September 19, the gift of receiving a Catholic education was celebrated at the South Buffalo Catholic School Commissioning Mass held at Holy Family Church.

Faculty and Staff from the three campuses of South Buffalo Catholic School, Ambrose Catholic Academy, Notre Dame Academy and Trinity Catholic Academy received a special blessing from Rev. Msgr. David Lee, Canonical Administator of the South Buffalo Catholic School.

Brendan's Voyage, under the direction of Mrs. Lyn Rezabek from Ambrose Catholic Academy performed a number of musical selections with students ranging in age from grade 3-8, as well as an alumnus from Ambrose Catholic Academy.

Each campus was represented as the readings were proclaimed by teachers from each campus and the presentation of the gifts of bread and water were presented by campus principals, Mrs. Laura Kazmierczak, Mrs. Kimberly Suminski and Ms. Dee Oakes, respectively.
