MQA Students are Inspired to Explore Through Extra-curricular Offerings

Extra-curricular activities are an important part of the learning process at Mary Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School, located at 170 Rosewood Terrace in Cheektowaga. In other words, school isn’t all about math, English and social studies.

At Mary Queen of Angels, students are inspired to explore!

Students can participate in activities ranging from Student Council and Junior Achievement to art, gardening, cheerleading and Quiz Bowl clubs. The school band is among the popular choices, and the school also offers a Christmas play and a talent show. Field trips add to a fun and well-balanced educational experience.

Ambrose Catholic Academy Presents: “No Strings Attached”

The 6th, 7th and 8th grade students of Ambrose Catholic Academy will present, “No Strings Attached” at the St. Ambrose Worship Site, 65 Ridgewood Road between South Park Avenue and McKinley Parkway.

The public is invited for curtain time at 12:30pm on Tuesday, March 29 and 7pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Under the choreography of Miss Melissa Miller and the direction of Mrs. Marilyn Miller, a retired faculty member of Ambrose Catholic Academy, Mrs. Corinne Corcoran and Mrs. Mary Gugino, “No Strings Attached”, portrays the beloved story of Pinocchio in musical form. A $2.00 goodwill offering will be graciously accepted.

Chicken Dinner, Easter Flower Sale to Benefit Mary Queen of Angels School

It’s a busy time of year at Mary Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School in Cheektowaga, and the community is invited to participate in several upcoming events.

The MQA eighth grade class will host a Krolick’s Chicken BBQ from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Our Lady Help of Christians, 4125 Union Road, Cheektowaga. Dinners will include a half-chicken, cole slaw, noodle/potato salad, roll and butter, dessert and a beverage for the pre-sale price of $9.50, or $10 at the door. All dinners will come in a takeout container. There will also be a basket auction and a 50/50 raffle. 

The eighth grade class is also holding a Easter flower fundraiser, with orders and payment due by Tuesday, April 5.

Notre Dame Academy Teacher Receives Surprise

Mrs. Mary Rose Brady, a Junior High Religion teacher at Notre Dame Academy was surprised by Channel 7’s Mike Randall following a nomination by one of her students for “Teacher of the Week”.

Colleen Finn, a 6th grader at Notre Dame Academy, nominated Mrs. Brady and enjoyed Mrs. Brady’s reaction as the student body and fellow faculty and staff members offered their congratulations.

Nichols School Prep A Hockey Team Earns Championship Title

On Monday, March 7, the Nichols School Boys Prep A Hockey team became Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Champions! Nichols student, Andrew Poturalski ’12, scored 43 seconds into overtime to clinch the 6-5 win over Ridley College of Ontario.

It was an exciting game two in the best-of-three series. The entire team put forth an incredible effort to secure the coveted championship title.

Rock-n-Jock Charity Event to Take Place at West Middle

West Seneca West Middle, located at 395 Center Road, will host the fourth annual Rock-n-Jock event to raise funds for Variety Kids at 6 p.m. Friday, March 11.

The main event of the evening will be the West Seneca East Middle vs. West Middle faculty basketball game. There will also be a performance by West Middle’s rock band, Rock Ed.

Admission is $5. Refreshments will also be available. All proceeds go to Variety Kids. In the past three years, the event has raised more than $10,000 for the charity.
