Buffalo Board of Education Will Host Special Meeting

From a Statement By the City of Buffalo- Board of Education:

Please take notice that pursuant to Section 5.2 of the By-Laws of the Buffalo Board of Education, Board President, Mr. Ralph Hernandez has called a “Special Meeting” of the Board to be held in Room 801 City Hall on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 12 PM.  The purpose of this meeting is to approve the proposed Educational Partnership Organizations for the Persistently Low Achieving schools, personnel matters and other items brought forth by the Superintendent.

FREE Panel and Reception: "Developing the Larkin District: Past, Present and Into the Future"

Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society and the Wehle School of Business at Canisius College, in collaboration with the Larkin Development Group, are pleased to present an evening program titled “Developing the Larkin District: Past, Present and Into the Future.” Additional support and sponsorship comes generously from the Darwin Martin House and Western New York Heritage magazine.

This FREE event is open to the public and will take place Wednesday, June 22, 2011, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Carl & Carol Montante Cultural Center on the campus of Canisius College. A reception, also free and open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m.

The public is invited to this FREE program featuring expert speakers on Buffalo’s first manufacturing district, the innovative Larkin Company, world-renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s Larkin Administration Building, and the future of this historic district in the twenty-first century.

This weekend we celebrate our incredible Asian elephants, Jothi and Surapa, as well as elephants around the world! Event highlights include Elephant Painting With Surapa, keeper talks, raffles and enrichment activities. ART Community Dialog:  The Voices of Western New York Artists

In keeping with the mission statement of community support, American Repertory Theater of Western New York has created a website and Facebook Page dedicated to opening up online forums to discuss issues facing WNY Artists. This new Website Public Forum page is entitled "The Voices of Western New York Artists."

These public forums are designed for all members of WNY Cultural Groups, media, individual artists and anyone with an opinion that faces Artists in Western New York.

Those visiting The Voices of WNY Artists website and the Facebook page are encouraged to post opinions, offer links to blogs & websites, announce upcoming shows and, most importantly, utilize their voices for the sole purposes of creating dialog and being heard.

100 Cities, One Night for Autism in Buffalo May 12

Celebrating “100 Cities, One Night For Autism”, the critically-acclaimed film, "Wretches and Jabberers", will play for a one night limited engagement in Buffalo on Thursday, May 12th at 7:30pm at Dipson Amherst Theatre 3500 Main Street.


Directed by Academy Award®-winner Gerardine Wurzburg, the feature documentary follows two men with autism, Tracy Thresher and Larry Bissonnette, who embark on a global quest to change attitudes about disability, intelligence and communication.

Starlight Studio: BlazeVOX [Books]: Genesis

On June 3, 2011, Starlight Studio and Art Gallery, The Learning Disabilities Association of Western New York, in conjunction with BlazeVOX [Books] present: "Genesis."

Starlight's Genesis, an Anthology of the Starlight Gallery edited by Katherine Loewen is Starlight Studio's first published book of poetry. The anthology will be released on Friday June 3, 2011 as a book launch event at Starlight Studio and Art Gallery, 340 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY from 7-10 pm.

This FREE event will feature Hutchinson Central Technical High School’s gypsy jazz guitar ensemble, The Six String Circus, Buffalo's own original jazz group, The Three Headed Giant, poetry readings, and refreshments.The book will be available to purchase for $20 and the poets will be there to autograph anthologies.
