South Buffalo Alive Announces Successful ‘Bricks in the Bowl’ Campaign

Twenty engraved bricks were added to South Buffalo Alive’s “Bricks in the Bowl” in Cazenovia Park in early September. The 20 bricks were a one-year record for the fundraising event, according to Marge Ryan, president of the nonprofit organization.

“Bricks in the Bowl” is located next to the 100-year-old Frederick Law Olmsted Shelter House in Cazenovia Park and includes 250 square feet of personalized bricks within a landscaped perimeter. Brick engraving, provided by Stone Art Memorial Co. of Lackawanna, occurs just one time per year, typically in late summer or early fall.

Buffalo, N.Y. – Today the Valley Community Association announced its “Feeding the World: Celebrating Buffalo's Grain Scoopers” commemorative event, which will pay tribute to an important aspect of the City of Buffalo’s industrial and cultural heritage.

“The history of Buffalo’s First Ward and Valley neighborhoods is directly tied to the thousands of mostly-Irish scoopers who toiled as laborers at the mills and docks along the Buffalo River,” said VCA Executive Director Peg Overdorf.  “This fun event will be a way to recall the rich chronicles of our region, while at the same time enjoying a visit to the great new waterfront destination that is Mutual Riverfront Park.”

The celebration is scheduled for Saturday, May 25th, 2013 from 2:00 pm – 6:00 p.m.  Mutual Riverfront Park is located at 41 Hamburg Street, Buffalo, NY 14210.
