Friends of Harmony to Perform Free Concert on 9/10 at Buffalo River Fest Park

The Friends of Harmony, WNY's premier male a cappella group, will perform a free concert at Buffalo's River Fest Park on Tuesday evening at 7:00 on September 10th.  Enjoy the songs from your favorite Hollywood movie in 4-part barbershop style harmony.  The show will culminate with a musical salute to the US Armed Forces for the brave work they do protecting us both at home and abroad.  For more information about this and other upcoming Friends of Harmony performances, contact Don Ehrenreich at (716) 573-5911.

VCA Golf Tournament on 8/26/13

The Valley Community Association is pleased to announce that on August 26, 2013, the center will be hosting its 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at Lancaster Country Club. Lunch and registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and includes soda, grilled chicken, Italian sausage, hot dogs, hamburgers, salad and desserts. 

The 4 person scramble format will begin with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. sharp. Beer and refreshments on the course. The tournament dinner will be catered by BW’s Barbecue and take place at Buffalo River Fest Park, 249 Ohio Street, Buffalo, NY, 14203, beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be great prizes for the various contests.

The cost per golfer is $100. Limited transportation in mini-buses will be available.

Buffalo River Fest Park Hosts 2nd Annual “Wardstock”

The Valley Community Association is proud to announce that musical acts Crash Cadillac and Gregg Sansone will headline the 2nd Annual “Wardstock” neighborhood celebration scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Buffalo River Fest Park (249 Ohio Street, Buffalo, NY 14204). In addition, this year’s event will feature Explore & More Children’s Museum’s “imagination playground” and kid’s area, as well as food, refreshments, and tie-dye shirts.

“Wardstock is one of those special nights that encourages folks to share old neighborhood memories in a fun, family friendly setting, with good music and even better people,” said VCA Executive Director Margaret “Peg” Overdorf. “And Buffalo River Fest Park really provides the perfect backdrop for this evening of all around excitement on the waterfront. The event is open to everyone, both young and old.”

"Feeding the World: Celebrating Buffalo's Grain Scoopers"

Buffalo, N.Y. – Today the Valley Community Association announced its “Feeding the World: Celebrating Buffalo's Grain Scoopers” commemorative event, which will pay tribute to an important aspect of the City of Buffalo’s industrial and cultural heritage.

“The history of Buffalo’s First Ward and Valley neighborhoods is directly tied to the thousands of mostly-Irish scoopers who toiled as laborers at the mills and docks along the Buffalo River,” said VCA Executive Director Peg Overdorf.  “This fun event will be a way to recall the rich chronicles of our region, while at the same time enjoying a visit to the great new waterfront destination that is Mutual Riverfront Park.”

The celebration is scheduled for Saturday, May 25th, 2013 from 2:00 pm – 6:00 p.m.  Mutual Riverfront Park is located at 41 Hamburg Street, Buffalo, NY 14210.

BMHA Hosts Public Workshop on Thursday

On Thursday, January 31 at 6 p.m., the public is invited to attend a workshop to review preliminary recommendations and offer feedback on a retail marketing study and commercial revitalization plan for the Perry Choice and First Ward Neighborhood. The meeting will be held in the Perry Auditorium at 416 Louisiana Street.

The workshop is free and is being held by the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority, Seneca Gaming Corp, the Perry Choice Planning Initiative and the University at Buffalo Center for Urban Studies.

Event organizers hope this workshop will generate ideas for storefronts, attract investors and spur new development for the neighborhood.

First Phase Of Redevelopment Of Richardson Olmsted Complex In Buffalo Announced

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the Richardson Center Corporation (RCC) today announced the first phase of redevelopment of the Richardson Olmsted Complex, a National Historic Landmark in Buffalo. The state support for the redevelopment of the 19th century complex will leverage private investment and create over 500 construction jobs and up to 90 permanent full-time jobs.

The iconic Towers Administration Building and two adjacent ward buildings – about one-third of the 480,000 square foot, 140 year old complex – will be recreated as a boutique hotel, event and conference space and Buffalo Architecture Center. Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy announced an architect team, hotel operator and construction manager that will undertake the transformation of this iconic landmark today at a press conference.
