There are plenty of cliche things that people say about dogs: That they're man's best friend, that they love you unconditionally and that behind those cold noses, there are warm hearts. But while dog owners might feel a bit silly about repeating those old chestnuts, they'll also admit they're absolutely true.

People are social and we all highly value our interactions with friends and family. While you might not think the same of cats, people who have more than one can attest that having multiple cats can make everyone in the household — two-legged and four-legged — a little happier.

“Cats need stimulation, friendship, companionship, play and exercise, and these are all things that a second cat can help provide,” explains Dr. Jane Brunt, a veterinarian and executive director of the CATalyst Council.

Reusable totes filled with pet surprises will also be available, and there will be hot dogs and hamburgers cooking on the grill. Guests are asked to park in the gallery’s parking lot or along Orchard Park Road.

Man's best friend provides more than mere companionship. Dogs encourage humans to exercise daily — rain or shine.

“The need to take a daily walk provides dog owners with a great form of exercise,” said Leila Mureebe, a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery.  “Exercise is good for the body's blood supply, for maintaining proper body weight and for controlling blood pressure.”
