The ‘Pawsitive’ Impacts of Having a Family Dog

The ‘Pawsitive’ Impacts of Having a Family Dog

(Welcome to our pet column, courtesy of Pet Connection Programs Inc. of Marilla. We post a new article each week, so be sure to check back on a regular basis!)

For many of us, life-long memories are built around the family dog. In fact, according to a recent Dog Chow Family Poll, 93 percent of parents say their dog makes the family feel complete. And according to parenting expert Nanny Robina, pets play an important role in teaching children responsibility and worthwhile life lessons.

“Caring for the family dog can create a deep and gratifying bond,” she says, “which greatly benefits children and teaches them important lessons in accountability, independence and consistency.”

Adopt A Pet: Daphne

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Suzanne Laba from the Buffalo Animal Shelter once again stopped by the Daybreak Saturday studios with Daphne, a wonderful dog currently living in a foster home.

Daphne is a very friendly dog and was jumping on our newsroom desks before the show! She has been living with her foster mother since this past April.

She is about 18 months old and is housebroken and friendly to everyone she meets.

If you're interested in adopting Daphne, you can email her foster mother here.

Adopt a Pet: Little Miss Sally

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Suzanne Laba of the Buffalo Animal Shelter stopped by the Daybreak Saturday studios to show off Sally, an energetic and fully grown dog.

Sally will likely be bouncing around in her kennel when you bring her home, however she is a wonderfully sweet dog who walks well on a leash. She is about fully grown as of now, but may fill out a little bit with good food from a good home.

Many people may be unwilling to adopt a pet from the animal shelter, however that doesn't mean you still can't help. Right now the Buffalo Animal Shelter is looking to install a stereo system throughout the building. The idea is to play certain types of music to help relieve some of the dog's stress and anxiety.
