Veterans that attended Clerk’s “Thank-A-Vet” event received more than a discount card

Erie County, NY – Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs has hosted over 50 community outreaches throughout Erie County issuing “Thank-A-Vet” Discount Cards to eligible Veterans. The identification card provides valuable discounts at over 600 Erie County Businesses.

Thursday’s “Thank-A-Vet” outreach at the Leonard Post in Cheektowaga was very special to the over 100 veterans that attended. In addition to receiving their “Thank-A-Vet” Discount Card, veterans were also given a hand-made valentine created by students from Cheektowaga Central Middle School.

Prior to this event, Chris Jacobs coordinated an effort with Cheektowaga Central Middle School, where over one hundred 5th graders participated in making valentines to be handed out to veterans at the Clerk’s “Thanks-A-Vet” outreach.

Special cards created for local veterans thanking them for their service

Erie County, NY- Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs helped lead a Valentines for Veterans project with 5th grade students at Cheektowaga Middle School. Jacobs worked closely with Principal Gretchen Sukdolak to coordinate this event where middle school students created hundreds of
hand-made Valentine’s Day cards for veterans both locally and overseas.

“This was an opportunity to share with the students what it means to be a veteran and explain why veterans, both past and present, should be honored for their service and for protecting the freedoms we enjoy in this country,” stated Jacobs. “This is a great community service project.”

County Clerk Jacobs will be delivering these cards, just in time for Valentine’s Day, to area veterans during an upcoming “Thank-A-Vet” Outreach at the Leonard Post in Cheektowaga.
