Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market Lists Events for June 4

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, a Western New York tradition featuring more than 30 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local products, is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine. Providing musical entertainment at the open-air venue this week will be singer/guitarist Kate Shaffer from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and the Hutch Tech Guitar Club from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The market also welcomes several community groups this week, including the Buffalo Animal Shelter, Art Alive 2011, Massachusetts Avenue Project and the Richmond Ashland National Register Historic District. Arrowhead Spring Vineyards and Leonard Oakes Estate Winery will be offering wine-tasting.

Burchfield Nature and Art Center Sponsoring 'In Bloom' Contest

Though it has been a wet spring, the blooms of summer are soon to emerge.   Get your gardens ready, because the Burchfield Nature and Art Center is sponsoring the “West Seneca in Bloom” gardening contest.  

Residents are invited to share the beauty of their gardens. Entry forms are available at the Burchfield Nature and Art Center 2001 Union Road, West Seneca, or online at BurchfieldNAC.org.  Entry forms must be received at the Burchfield Nature and Art Center by July 15.  There is a $10 fee for each garden entered.

With Memorial Day weekend right around the corner, many people will be hosting backyard barbecues. The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) is reminding residents to follow important fire safety tips so that they can enjoy a safe summer season. 

“The outdoor cookout season will soon be in full swing.  Unfortunately, a barbecue grill could start a fire if certain safety rules are ignored,” said Firemen’s Association of the State of New York President David Jacobowitz.  “It’s important to position the grill far away from siding, deck railings, trees and other flammables. When gatherings involve children, it’s critical that a child-free zone of at least three feet is established around the grill.”

Providing musical entertainment at the open-air venue this week will be violinist David Adamczyk, who will perform from approximately 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The market also welcomes several community groups this week, including Community Beer Works, WNY Land Conservancy, Crisis Services, Green Options Buffalo “I BIKE,” and the Farm Sanctuary. Art Alive 2011 will have information about their upcoming event available at the Elmwood Village table. Arrowhead Spring Vineyards and Schulze Vineyards & Winery will be offering wine-tasting.

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, a Western New York tradition featuring more than 30 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local products, is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine. Providing musical entertainment at the open-air venue this week will be violinist Griffin Saiia.

The market also welcomes three local community groups that be distributing information about their organizations. Joining the market on May 21 will be representatives of GrowWNY.org, the Massachusetts Avenue Project and Crisis Services. Additionally, Liberty Vineyards & Winery and Leonard Oakes Estate Winery will be offering wine-tasting.

ART Community Dialog:  The Voices of Western New York Artists

In keeping with the mission statement of community support, American Repertory Theater of Western New York has created a website and Facebook Page dedicated to opening up online forums to discuss issues facing WNY Artists. This new Website Public Forum page is entitled "The Voices of Western New York Artists."

These public forums are designed for all members of WNY Cultural Groups, media, individual artists and anyone with an opinion that faces Artists in Western New York.

Those visiting The Voices of WNY Artists website and the Facebook page are encouraged to post opinions, offer links to blogs & websites, announce upcoming shows and, most importantly, utilize their voices for the sole purposes of creating dialog and being heard.

Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market Lists May 14 Activities

 

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, a Western New York tradition featuring more than 30 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local products, opened for the 2011 season on Saturday, May 7. Hours at the open-air market are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, rain or shine.

This Saturday, the unique entertainment group Pyromancy will perform from approximately 10 to 11:30 a.m., followed by the Hutch Tech Guitar Club from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Additionally, the market welcomes three community groups that will be distributing information about their organizations. Joining the market on May 14 will be representatives of Buffalo ReUse, Crisis Services and New York State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt’s office.

A new Electronic Benefit Transfer system is also in place at the market. The EBT system allows individuals and families receiving public assistance to purchase products from eligible market vendors.
