Rural Outreach Center Seeks Social Worker

The Rural Outreach Center (ROC), an East Aurora-based nonprofit organization dedicated to ending rural poverty in southern Erie County and surrounding areas and assisting, empowering and elevating individuals to self-sufficiency, is seeking a part-time social worker to join its dedicated staff.

The ROC offers general counseling, mental health and substance abuse counseling, play therapy, multiple support groups and many other services through partner organizations. The person selected for this position will conduct individual intakes, provide case management in home and office settings, and will work with individuals to establish goals and objectives with the ultimate goal to reach a higher level of stability and independence.

Dog Ears Bookstore to Host First-time Author Joe DiNardo

Author Joe DiNardo has released his first book, “A Letter to My Wife,” a 55-page dedication that follows his journey with his late wife, Marcia, from cancer diagnosis through death. A funny, sad and hopeful look at the beauty of love found and lost, DiNardo uses anecdotes, practical wisdom and a unique approach to storytelling to create shared experiences with his readers — many of whom have gone through or know someone who has gone through a battle with cancer.

Dog Ears Bookstore & Café, 688 Abbott Road, Buffalo, will host DiNardo for a book-signing event from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9.

DiNardo is the CEO, director and founder of Counsel Financial, a highly specialized commercial lender offering loans and credit lines to law firms. In these roles he oversees all business transactions and provides long-term strategy for the company.

Winter Market Continues With Free Exercise Class, Nutrition Information

The Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State, an indoor version of the popular Elmwood Village Farmers Market, continues from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 4, in Buckham Hall on the campus of SUNY Buffalo State, 1300 Elmwood Ave.

In addition to hosting nearly 20 quality vendors, entertainment is offered from approximately 10 to 11:30 a.m. Providing musical entertainment on Feb. 4 will be the Nickel City String Band. Hosting the market’s community table this Saturday will be Heritage Centers. One group or organization from Buffalo State also hosts a weekly informational table, and the market is equipped to accept EBT customers as well.

Call the Right Play for Super Bowl LI and Pass the Keys to a Sober Driver

Football fans across the country will celebrate America’s most watched national sporting event, Super Bowl LI, on Sunday, Feb. 5. For many, the celebration will include drinking alcohol.

That’s why highway safety advocates and law enforcement officials are teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a special “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk” reminder to urge all football fans to call the right play on Super Bowl weekend by passing the keys to a sober driver before the drinking begins.

Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State Adds Exercise Class

An exercise class offered by Buffalo State College senior Molly Lawler will take place from 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays beginning Jan. 14 at the Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State. Classes will be held in the Buckham Hall atrium at the Rees Street entrance, and participants are asked to bring a bottle of water and yoga mat. Classes will be free of charge; goodwill offerings would be appreciated. A Tabata workout will be featured on Jan. 14.

Lawler, a Health and Wellness major, received her ISCA Personal Training Certification as well as First Aid/CPR from the National Safety Council. AHA certified, she hopes to earn a Strength and Conditioning Certificate and continue her education in the personal training field.

The Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State, an indoor version of the popular Elmwood Village Farmers Market, returns to Buckham Hall on the campus of SUNY Buffalo State, 1300 Elmwood Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 7, following a two-week holiday hiatus. 

In addition to hosting nearly 20 quality vendors, entertainment is offered from approximately 10 to 11:30 a.m. Providing musical entertainment on Jan. 7 will be Fools Like Us. Hosting the market’s community table this Saturday will be Heritage Centers. One group or organization from Buffalo State also hosts a weekly informational table, and the market is equipped to accept EBT customers as well.
