Lessons at WILD All-Star Cheerleading Go Far Beyond the Mat

Lessons at WILD All-Star Cheerleading Go Far Beyond the Mat

While some families register their children for classes at WILD All-Star Cheerleading in Orchard Park to learn the latest cheerleading, gymnastic and dance techniques, it’s the underlying lessons in self-confidence, teamwork, personal responsibility, respect, discipline, social responsibility and family that are providing skills that will last a lifetime.

“While we do our best to offer opportunities to meet the needs of every student that comes through our door, we also get to know each individual and help them set and reach goals, learn the value of commitment and teamwork, and ultimately see their dreams become a reality,” said Rebekah Stiller, WILD co-owner and co-founder. “Our ultimate goal is to create champions both on and off the mat!”

Start a Conversation During National Suicide Prevention Week

Start a Conversation During National Suicide Prevention Week

This week, Sept. 10-16, is National Suicide Prevention Week. For some of us, it’s a time to reflect and mourn those we have lost. And for all of us, it should also be a week filled with starting conversations, taking an active role in suicide prevention, and seeking immediate help for those suffering from depression or carrying the burden of suicidal thoughts.

“Suicidal thoughts and depression can impact anyone of any age, race or gender. It does not discriminate,” said Monica A. Farrar, a licensed mental health counselor and private clinician in Williamsville. “Far too often I meet individuals and families who feel embarrassed or ashamed to openly discuss mental illness and suicide, and that needs to end. Help is available, and it may be a simple conversation that opens the door to treatment and a far better life.”

Local Mom Turned Autism Advocate Hopes to Share Her Message With the WNY Community

Love without words. If your family has experienced the impact of autism, you already know the pain behind that brief statement.

Clarence residents Molly and Matthew Pitman are the very fortunate parents of two beautiful children, Donovan and Charlotte. Now 14, Donovan was diagnosed with autism at 23 months old … and their lives were changed forever.

“When our daughter Charlotte was about three years old, she asked me why Donovan did not respond when she said, ‘I love you.’ While I was caught off guard, I used her bond with our family dog, Makeo, as a teachable moment,” said Molly. “Makeo plays with you. He gets excited when you come home and he even lets you cuddle with him. Makeo shows you his love without saying a word. Charlotte seemed to have a better understanding, and so did I.”
