Festival of Trees Will Provide Funds to Purchase New Electronic Fetal

Proceeds from the 2010 Festival of Trees will fund new Electronic Fetal Monitors for Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.   This gift, made possible in part by event sponsors like CGF Anesthesiology Associates, PC, Mark IV Industries Foundation, Tops Friendly Markets, Fisher-Price and the physician members of University at Buffalo Pediatric Associates, Inc., will enable the Hospital to replace all the monitors with the latest and most state-of-the–art equipment.  Constant monitoring and examination during the labor process will allow doctors to monitor progress and ensure the safest possible delivery with minimal complication for both baby and mother.    

Pet Connection Plans November Community Events

November is shaping up to be a very busy month for the volunteers of Pet Connection Programs Inc., a maternity and special care animal shelter located in Marilla.

On Friday, November 5, volunteers and puppies will visit one of Buffalo’s most historically significant buildings — the Larkin at Exchange Building — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Table Tennis Tournament Raises Funds for Turkeys, But Need Still Not Met

BUFFALO, N.Y. – With Catholic Charities of Buffalo in need of  turkeys for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, the Broadway Market held the first-ever “Broadway Battle” Table Tennis Tournament Oct. 16, where players competed to win the title of tournament champion – all in the name of a good cause.

Winners of the tournament were Ray Nagel, first place; Cliff Falk, second place; Tom Handley, third place; and Scott Gaddi, fourth place. Richard Roman, an official USA Table Tennis referee, donated his time to oversee the tournament and Former Miss Buffalo Nina Perino sang the National Anthem.

Entry fees totaling $210 were donated to Catholic Charities to provide turkeys to families in need this Thanksgiving. But even with this contribution, food will still be in short supply according to Eileen Nowak, Catholic Charities’ director of Parish Outreach and Advocacy.

Walsh Insurance Group Donates $50,000 to the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy

On Saturday, October 23rd, over 100 employees from the Walsh Insurance Group donated their time to plant 150 trees and dozens of flower bulbs along the ring road in Delaware Park.  These new trees and their maintenance will be paid for by a generous donation of $50,000 from the Walsh Insurance Group and their subsidiaries.

Spirit of Children Program Brings Halloween Party to Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo

Spirit Halloween Volunteers put on their costumes and brought Halloween cheer to the patients and families of Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo this past Tuesday, October 19. Pumpkin painting, costume parades, Halloween games and crafts offer a temporary escape for the young patients.

The Spirit of Children program was launched in 2006 and is dedicated to bringing fun and funding to Hospital Child Life Departments during the Halloween season and all year long. Volunteer Spirit Halloween employees bring Halloween celebrations to the hospitals so kids can enjoy the holiday. Since its inception, Spirit of Children has raised more than $14,000 for the Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo to date.

Corpus Christi Parish to Host Hawaiian Luau to Benefit East Side Church

Corpus Christi Parish, considered to be a positive presence in maintaining a strong community in Buffalo’s Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood, is hosting a Hawaiian Luau to help continue preserving the church that has been named a “New York State Landmark” and added to the “National Register of Historic Places.” 

The Hawaiian Luau at Corpus Christi Parish, located at 199 Clark Street in Buffalo, will take place on Sunday October 24th, 2010, from the time immediately following the 11:30 AM mass to 9:00 PM.  A whole roasted pig buffet will take place from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  A “Hawaiian Casino” with numerous table games will be held throughout the event.
