West Seneca Volleyball to 'Dig Pink' to Raise Funds for Breast Cancer Research

West Seneca students will be digging for a cure to breast cancer.

The school district’s second annual Dig Pink event will raise funds to eradicate the disease.  Part of Side-Out, a national program in which college and high school volleyball teams host fundraising events for breast cancer research, Dig Pink matches are held throughout October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This year’s slogan for the West Seneca event is “A divided town united by a ribbon” referring to cross-town rivals East and West coming together for a common cause. Athletes from West Seneca East and West Senior High School will begin competing at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the Buffalo Niagara Court Center, 425 Meyer Road in West Seneca.

West girls varsity volleyball coach Molly McDermid decided to organize West Seneca’s Dig Pink last year after hearing about the program through a local college.
