West Elementary students and staff got haircuts for a cause on Monday, May 21, as the school became the third in West Seneca to go “Bald for Bucks” this year.

West Seneca West Elementary raised $15,800 in its first time participating in the fundraiser for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Approximately 40 students and staff members decided to “go bald.” Top fundraiser was sixth grade student Sabrina Passucci, who collected $2,045. Jacob Wood, raised the second highest amount, $1,445. Following closely behind were clerk typist Maura Lillis Blonski, with $1,171 and third-grader Michael Witt, with $1,161.

Among those signed up to go under the razor was fifth grade teacher Kristen Frawley, along with her husband and two children, third-grader Maya and kindergartner John. Together they raised $645.

Teacher aide Kathie Barreca, who organized the event, also "went bald."

Those who do not wish to have their heads shaved or donate to Locks of Love were able to get manicures for a minimum $5 donation.

Stylists from Kim's Sheer Expressions in Angola and Diva Studio in Buffalo donated their time for the event, which took place in the gym.

Earlier this year, West Seneca East High School raised $36,000 and Northwood Elementary collected $11,000 through Bald for Bucks. West Seneca West High School will also go Bald for Bucks on June 8. Stay tuned for more information!
