ProActive Sports Rehab Offers ASTYM Treatments to Decrease Pain, Increase Function

If you’ve been suffering from a chronic medical condition that causes pain in your daily life, there is new hope through the ASTYM system.

ASTYM, an advanced form of soft tissue mobilization proven to be a highly effective treatment for ailments such as chronic tendinitis and tendinosis, is now available at the Orchard Park and Hamburg offices of ProActive Sport Rehab. ProActive was the first physical therapy office to bring ASTYM to Western New York, and is currently the sole provider of this service in the Southtowns region.

ASTYM is a treatment that stimulates regeneration of soft tissue structures, including tendons and muscles. Certified rehab professionals apply instruments on top of the skin to locate dysfunctional soft tissue, and to transfer pressure and shear forces to the underlying soft tissue structures. The treatment starts a healing and regenerative response in tendons, muscles and other soft tissue structures.

Patients experiencing pain, loss of motion or a loss of function following surgery, injury, cumulative trauma disorders or chronic irritation often benefit from the ASTYM system. The program includes stretching and exercise to promote improved tissue strength and alignment, and patients are encouraged to remain active throughout the treatment process. The end result is an improved quality of life and often allows workers to stay in their jobs and athletes to participate in their sports.

“Our mission is to be a leader in orthopedic physical therapy, with a commitment to provide patients with the highest standard of care,” said Jeffrey Kirchmyer, PT, co-founder of ProActive Sports Rehab. “The ultimate goal is to achieve patient independence and return to function.”

“ASTYM addresses new and old injuries at the root of the problem. It’s often effective when other treatments have failed,” added Anthony Goode, PT/ATC and co-founder.

ProActive’s Renee McKenzie, DPT, Amanda Ucci, DPT, and Laurie LePine-Koester, PTA, are all certified in ASTYM technique. For more information, please visit www.proactivesportsrehab.com or call the Hamburg office at 648-8700 or the Orchard Park office at 674-9600.
