Protecting yourself doesn’t get any easier: Western New York Immediate Care will host three “drive-thru” flu shot clinics, designed for people to get vaccinated without getting out of their car.  The drive-thru clinics will be held Saturday, October 15, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at three Immediate Care locations:

  • Orchard Park, Immediate Care parking lot, located at 3050 Orchard Park Road
  • Cheektowaga, Immediate Care parking lot, 5014 Transit Road
  • Williamsville, in the Eastern Hills Mall parking lot on Transit Road, across from WNY Immediate Care at 7616 Transit Road

“Drive into any one of our clinics, roll up your sleeve, and leave,” said Dr. Joseph Chow, WNY Immediate Care Medical Director. “This is a very convenient way for people to receive the preventive vaccine.”

Influenza (the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious flu complications.

One study found that during the 1990s, flu-related deaths in the United States ranged from an estimated 17,000 during the mildest season to 52,000 during the most severe season; an average of 36,000 deaths occur annually due to the flu. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises that everyone over the age of six months, including pregnant women, should receive the shot. The vaccine is designed to protect against the main strains of flu that researchers predict will cause the most illness later this year.

Flu shots are also available at all Immediate Care locations during all regular business hours. The cost of flu shots are covered in full by most insurance plans.  Those without insurance will be charged $35.
