Relay For Life of West Seneca Invites Community to Kickoff

WEST SENECA, N.Y. - The American Cancer Society invites community members to "Cruise for a Cure"  and learn more about Relay For Life at its kickoff for its West Seneca fundraiser.

With the theme of "Cruise for a Cure," Relay For Life of West Seneca encourages anyone wishing to honor cancer survivors and caregivers, or pay tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer to attend the kickoff to find out more about the Relay For Life event in their community.

The kickoff ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 at West Seneca West Senior High School (cafeteria), 3330 Seneca St., West Seneca. Throughout the morning, the honorary survivor for 2011, Anne Zaky, will speak, community members will be honored for their support of Relay, and refreshments will be served. Anyone wishing to register for Relay will also be able to do so at Saturday's kickoff. The West Seneca community raised more than $92,000 through last year’s Relay for the American Cancer Society

Relay is an annual community celebration where individuals and teams set up camp and take turns walking or running around a track “relay” style to raise funds to fight cancer.  At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminary candles around the track in a moving ceremony honor cancer survivors as well as remembering those lost to the disease.  It is an opportunity to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer by helping people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back. This year's Relay For Life of West Seneca will take place Saturday, June 11.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated.  Since 1985, Relay For Life has spread to more than 5,000 communiTo join Relay, call 1-800-227-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.
