Have you ever wondered how the Niagara River works?  What animals and plants depend upon our unique stretch of the Great Lakes system?  How much has the River recovered from past abuses, and what are the most pressing current concerns?

Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper’s new River Academy is a comprehensive training course that provides an introduction to our Niagara River watershed through classes in stream science, stream restoration and watershed management.  Academy students will experience field-oriented class sessions with local experts as well as hands-on restoration workshops on Niagara River tributaries.  All students will receive a certificate of completion upon finishing the course.

River Academy classes will be held from 9:30-10:45am on Thursday mornings at ECC North Campus and from 9am-12:15pm Saturday mornings at the Riverkeeper office and field locations.  Classes run from January 20-May 14, 2011.  Students seeking just a certificate (not course credit) are only required to attend Saturday sessions.

To register for River Academy with course credit, visit ECC at www.ecc.edu.  River Academy is listed under PH 120/121 (Intro to Environmental Science), Section 7, for the class times above.

For more information about River Academy, or to register without course credit, visit http://bnriverkeeper.org/river-academy/ or call Robbyn Drake at Riverkeeper, (716) 852-7483 x 12.
